For the past 40 years, Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House has been providing safe, affordable lodging, healthy meals, and a caring community to families who are experiencing a medical crisis. Between the COVID pandemic, economic downturn, and unrest in our country, 2020 was also a challenging year for most. It changed the way we all work, live, play and think about healthcare. The year taught us the importance of having a “family” in the midst of crisis and a place to call home as you navigate a storm. This past year has showed all of us how critical the services AHHH provides to the families we serve.

As thousands of people lost their lives to COVID-19 in Georgia, AHHH families were forced to travel to Atlanta for life saving medical treatment. Due to the pandemic, many patients arrived to the House alone to receive lifesaving treatment without their families or support systems.  The Hospitality House staff and other guests became their Atlanta “family”.  Together, the caring community at AHHH supported each other and provided a safe, healing environment for all.

The Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House remained committed to those most in need of our services. While the pandemic shut down our state, we kept our doors open to provide safe and affordable lodging to those who could not postpone medical treatment.  When similar facilities had shut down, we opened our doors to give families a place to call home. When we were forced to pause in person volunteer opportunities, AHHH continued to serve a warm, nutritious meal every night of the year.

Take a look at some of things we accomplished in 2020 by reviewing our annual impact report.

Our services make a difference in the mental and physical health of families. According to a 2020 study:

  • 93% of patients/caregivers that stayed at the House reported having less stress because of staying at the House.

  • 85% of our guests that stayed reported improvements to the Patient’s physical health because of staying at the House.

Thank you for your support and dedication to the Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House mission. You donated, you shared your talent, and you volunteered your time. THANK YOU. Because of you, we were able to provide a home away from home for more than 500 guests in 2020! You helped save lives and provided comfort in the middle of a storm. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, and most importantly the families we serve: THANK YOU for your support in 2020! We could not do this work without you!

2021 brings a sense of hope and optimism. The need for equitable access to healthcare, affordable lodging and a caring community continues to grow. There are 100’s of families that will be needing a “home away from home” in the next year. They will be receiving lifesaving cancer treatment, heart surgery, solid organ transplants, and treatment for a trauma. Without AHHH, families will be sleeping in a car or in a hospital waiting room. We are forever grateful for your support and hope you continue to join us in our life changing work.

Please check out how you can support patients and families that are battling a life threatening illness by donating or volunteering. Follow us on social media and share our mission with your friends and family.

Together, we are all stronger. Grateful for your continued support.
